What It Does

3D Printer on Demand works inside AI assistants that support remote connectors. In a chat you can:

  • Get a quote to have an STL, 3MF, STEP or OBJ file printed and shipped, and change the quantity or color.
  • Check a file for printing problems, with no price, such as thin walls or a part that is too large.
  • Ask how to design a part for 3D printing: walls, holes and fits, tolerances, supports, snap fits and threaded inserts. Answers come with their published sources.
  • Get a material suggestion from the materials we print, based on where the part will be used.
  • Compare 3D printing with injection molding for your quantity, using your own cost figures.
  • Look up our materials, colors, lead time and shipping.

A quote opens a private page on our site where you can see the part in 3D, change the quantity and order. You pay on our site, not in the chat.

Connect It

The server address is https://3dprinterondemand.com/api/mcp. It needs no account and no sign-in.

Claude: open Settings, then Connectors, choose to add a custom connector, and paste the address. Custom connectors need a paid Claude plan. Then turn the connector on in a chat from the tools menu.

ChatGPT: open 3D Printer on Demand in the ChatGPT plugin directory and add it. Then turn it on in a new chat from the + menu next to the message box.

Things to Ask

  • “How much to print this part in black PETG, 5 copies?” (with the file attached)
  • “Change that quote to 50 copies.”
  • “Check this part for 3D printing problems. I do not need a price yet.”
  • “I need a bracket that will sit outside in the sun. Which material should I use?”
  • “How thick should the walls be on a 3D printed enclosure?”
  • “What hole size should I draw for an M3 bolt in a printed part?”

Attaching Files

In ChatGPT on the web, an STL, 3MF, STEP or OBJ file you attach to the chat is sent to us so we can check it and price it. Other assistants, including Claude, do not pass attached files to connectors yet. There you get a link to upload the file on our instant quote page, which runs the same checks and the same prices.

Design help, material advice and the molding comparison need no file and work in every assistant.

Prices and Orders

A quote is an estimate. We hold it for 30 days, and the final price is confirmed at checkout. Prices in a chat come from the same pricing as our website, with no extra fee for using an assistant.

Some materials, very large parts and long prints are priced by a person. The chat tells you when that applies and gives you a link to request a review. We do not print firearms or firearm parts, weapons, or the other items in our content policy.

What We Receive

We receive the file you attach (in ChatGPT), your choices, and the question the assistant sends us. The assistant may also send a general location and an ID that does not name you, which we use only to limit how many requests one person can make. How long we keep each of these is on our privacy page.
